It's a case of "I told you so" in Niagara-on-the-Lake.
Fire Chief Rob Grimwood joined 610 CKTB's Niagara in the Morning show saying he warned organizers of the popular Niagara Lavender Festival that cars should not be parked in a dry hayfield.
Grimwood says he even sent a letter pointing out the dangers.
11 fire trucks and 42 firefighters participated in the operation Sunday afternoon to put out the massive fire which spread to 34 vehicles.
Grimwood is paying tribute to the volunteer firefighters who responded quickly to save at least 50 vehicles and possible injuries.
Grimwood says the cause of the fire is likely a hot undercarriage of a vehicle coming into contact with the dry straw.
He says the second likely cause is a discarded cigarette.
Grimwood says the worst case scenario played out in real life and it was one of the fastest moving fires he's ever witnessed.
He says a discussion will take place with senior management in the future regarding parking for festivals and concerts.
19 of the cars were completely destroyed, but no one was hurt.
Damage is pegged at over one million dollars.
Organizers with the festival have not responded to CKTB's calls.
