If seven-year-old Maya Webster has her way, the government would cover the cost of continous glucose monitors for children with type 1 diabetes.
In fact, the Niagara-on-the-Lake resident has been knocking on doors in her neighbourhood collecting signatures on a petition.
She tells CKTB's the response has been good.
Maya was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when she was two-years-old.
She now uses a continuous glucose monitor which sends out alarms if her sugars are too high or low, helping her avoid hospital stays and life threatening complications.
Maya’s family is lucky enough to have coverage that allows them to afford this device, but Maya believes that every child should be afforded the same opportunity.
Niagara Falls NDP MPP Wayne Gates has joined Maya to knock on doors will be bringing the little girl to Queen’s Park when the Legislature resumes to lobby directly for this coverage.
