A member of the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority Board calls a recent decision about Thundering Waters in Niagara Falls 'a 180 degree turnaround' from the previous board.
St. Catharines' representative Ed Smith says the NPCA voted to send a letter to the Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry showing support to protect the provincially significant wetlands.
"I want to say the underlying message in this letter that will go to the Minister is that the NPCA is back on track as far as its mandated duties and is in the business of protecting provincially significant wetlands."
Smith says the decision was unanimous.
The previous NPCA board made headlines when they supported a proposed $1.5 billion development for the area.
Public backlash continued with as the term 'biodiversity offsetting' arose; a process that would move parts of the wetland to make room for the development.
