St. Catharines City Council wants to make sure the outgoing board of the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority doesn't overstay their term.
At last night's meeting, council adopted a motion calling for the incoming Regional Council to appoint an interim board of directors, until all citizen appointments have been made for the NPCA, at the first meeting of the new term of Regional Council.
Mayor Walter Sendzik says the current board should not be operating past their expiring date.
"I don't think you leave the current board in place, I think the people have spoken loud and clear on that, so I think we just clear the deck bring in an interim board and work toward a full time board that will shepherd and guide the NPCA over the next four years."
Last Friday, area municipalities were sent an email from current NPCA board Chair Sandy Annunziata which stated he won't vacate his position until a new board is chosen by a new process that dates back to 1994. (See email below)
The new regional council is set to be sworn in next Thursday with the first order of business being the selection of the new Regional Chair.
