Gusty winds along the Lake Erie could create an increased risk of shoreline erosion and flooding for residents in the Port Colborne area.
The Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority issuing the warning as gusty winds are expected to build overnight and peak tomorrow morning.
The Ministry of Natural Resources is forecasting Lake Erie water levels at Port Colborne to increase due to surge by 0.6m over current water levels with significant wave heights up to 2.0m.
Peak water levels are forecasted to occur early Wednesday morning.
Lake Erie static (calm and flat) water levels are well above the long-term historical average and are forecasted to remain elevated through spring 2019.
The potential for shoreline flooding and erosion is greater at this time due to the higher than normal Lake Erie water levels. Any moderate increase in West or Southwest winds will further increase this risk.
The NPCA will continue to monitor these conditions and will issue further messages as required.
