Niagara Peninsula Energy asking us to help them sound the alarm about the latest round of scams targeting their customers.
NPEI says customers have been contacted by people pretending to represent the utility and threatening to cut off their power if they don't receive an immediate payment.
The power company says this is a scam and NPEI never disconnects power without first sending a notice and then contacting customers by phone with a 48 hour reminder.
They never ask customers to call a 1-800 number to make such a payment.
