A reminder today from the Niagara Parks Police as well as the Niagara Regional Police to keep safety in mind when enjoying the many trails and hiking locations in the Niagara Region.
The City of St. Catharines closed Morningstar Mill over concerns about large crowds, safety and illegal parking in the area.
The Niagara Gorge has been the scene of numerous issues this year as well, the most recent saw a 19 year old slip on the rocks and disappear into the fast moving waters.
Parks Police tweeting out that if you are hiking in the gorge to use caution and follow Niagara Parks staff direction.
They're also initiating a zero tolerance for anyone caught disobeying signs and deviating from the marked trails.
NRP say going off trail or taking risks put others at risk and pulls first responders away from other duties.
Earlier this month, a Niagara Falls Fire Fighter had to be rescued near the whirlpool rapids after slipping into the water trying to rescue a 16 year old teen who was clinging to a rock.
