A new 4 way stop has been erected at a dangerous intersection in NOTL and Niagara Regional Police conducted a stop sign compliance initative in the area today.
After more than 14 accidents in the last 5 years at Four Mile Creek Road and Line 3 Road, the region agreed to install a new four way stop and also reduce the speed limits in the area.
During the 5 hour safety initiative today, NRP were unable to stop vehicles that were rolling through the stop signs, because of the nearly 40 violators who completely disobeyed the stop signs drove through the intersection at speeds in excess of the legal allowable 60 km/hr maximum.
The majority of the violator's stopped were local residents, with only two being from out of region.
While Officers exercised their discretion and took the time to educate drivers, issuing more than 2 dozen provincial offence warnings, a number of drivers were also issued tickets for various moving violations.
