A Niagara Regional Police officer has been charged with attempted murder and assault with a weapon after a cop on cop shooting incident in Pelham.
The incident took place on Thursday, November 29th shortly after noon in the area of Roland Road and Sulphur Springs Drive in the Town of Pelham.
Constable Nathan Parker and Detective Sergeant Shane Donovan were on scene of a collision reconstruction investigation.
An argument broke out between the two officers, which led to shots fired.
Parker was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The Special Investigations unit assigned eight investigators and three forensic investigators to the case
SIU has now arrested and charged Detective Sergeant Shane Donovan.
In a release, SIU Director Tony Loparco says he has reasonable grounds to believe that criminal offences were committed.
Detective Sergeant Shane Donovan has been charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, and attempted murder.
He has also been placed on leave with pay.
In a press conference yesterday, Acting Chief Bill Fordy said Parker is still on administrative leave with pay and is still recovering.
52-year-old Constable Parker has been with the NRP for 28 years, and has had a troubled past with four disciplinary hearings against him.
The case will be before a St. Catharines court on April 18th.
