The Niagara Regional Police Service starting the new year on a controversial note.
Police have introduced their proposed 2019 budget which, right now, includes a spending increase of 6.5 percent.
Last year's 143 million dollar budget included an increase of 4.5 percent.
Police are asking for $4-million more this year.
The police service has been forced to run deficits for the past two years.
