Niagara Regional Police shedding more light on the human remains found in Niagara in July of 2013.
At a news conference this morning, police say the remains were found in a body of water in Niagara-on- the-Lake, but because of the advanced state of decomposition they couldn't determine the sex or age.
Police say the body had been in the water at least one year, possibly 2-3 years, and was discovered near Smuggler's Cove in Niagara on the Lake.
A check with missing persons did not reveal anything,
The case was suspended in November 2013.
Since then, a forensic anthropologist has created a biological profile and has recreated a facial model.
They were able to identify that the individual was male, between the ages of 40 and 60 years old, between 5'5'' and 5'11'' tall, and of African or African-European ancestry.
The deceased was found to have dental fillings, and teeth discoloration that suggests he was a smoker.
No cause of death has been released.
Police are now asking the for the public's help in identifying the man.
