Niagara Police are looking for witnesses following a sexual assault in St. Catharines.
On Thursday around 3:30 a.m., police were called to an area of Roehampton and Carlton over reports of a collision.
When police arrived they discovered a single vehicle, 4 door white sedan, that had been involved in a collision with the driver and passenger at the scene.
An investigation led to the involvement of the Sexual Assault Unit with information from the female passenger that she had been sexually assaulted in the vehicle following the collision.
Police are looking to speak with a witness who may have been in the area during the course of the assault and spoke with the accused.
31 year old Augustine Murenga of St. Catharines is charged with impaired operation of a vehicle, driving with a blood alcohol limit over 80 milligrams and sexual assault.
Murenga is currently being held in custody for a bail hearing.
