Niagara Regional Police are looking for anyone who may have witnessed a fatal crash yesterday that saw a vehicle end up in the Niagara Gorge.
Emergency personnel were called to an area on the Niagara River Parkway just north of the Floral Clock around 11:50 a.m. in Niagara-on-the-Lake.
The Niagara Parks Police High Angle River Team along with the NOTL Fire Service and and Niagara Falls Fire Services initially attended the scene.
Upon rappelling into the gorge, a heavily damaged vehicle was found near the bottom with a deceased person inside.
Crews are still trying to gain access to the vehicle and identifying the person inside remains ongoing.
The Parkway remains open to traffic.
The circumstances of the incident remain under investigation by the 2 District Niagara Falls detective office. They are being assisted by detectives from the Niagara Regional Police Service Collision Reconstruction Unit and the Forensic Services Unit. Due the location, officials from Ontario Power Generation are also working with emergency services personnel.
