A parachutist is safe and sound after police responded to a welfare check in Welland.
Several witnesses called police Saturday evening at approximately 8:30 after seeing what appeared to be a male in distress after possibly crashing in a wooded area near Highway 58 and Forks Road.
The NRP, Port Colborne Fire Department, Niagara EMS and the Erie County Sheriff's helicopter were all involved in a search of the area.
Police confirmed the male had been flying a motorized powered parachute in the area but landed safely at the same location as the takeoff point and was "not at all in distress".
