Niagara Regional Police confirming it was a suicide attempt on the Burgoyne Bridge in St. Catharines this morning.
The bridge was closed for nearly 7 hours.
NRP say just before 1 a.m. officers were called to the bridge on reports of a suicidal female.
There was a brief interaction with officers before the 18 year old woman went over the side of the structure.
She was taken to hospital with minor injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.
The Special Investigations Unit was called in due to the brief interaction between the victim and officers.
The Region has recently posted signs at the pedestrian entrances to the bridge that provide a 24-hour crisis telephone number.
The move was part of a response to a number of recent incidents involving mental health on the bridge.
