A Niagara Regional Police officer is facing a charge following an incident in the summer.
The Special Investigations Unit announcing today that they have charged Sergeant Michael Baxter with assault causing bodily harm.
The incident happened on August 16th (2016) when the NRP were dispatched to a drugstore in Niagara Falls to investigate a complaint of assault.
The SIU says a police officer located a man behind a business on Thorold Stone Road and placed him under arrest and that's when there was an interaction between the man and the officer which resulted in serious injuries to the man.
Baxter will appear before St.Catharines court on November 14, 2016.
The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
