Niagara Regional Police will debut their new Automated License Plate Recognition system today.
Police will hold a special demonstration this morning for members of the media at their headquarters in Niagara Falls.
The system includes a series of cameras that are placed on top of police vehicles which automatically take photos of license plates.
The data is then uploaded and compared to a list provided by the MTO and Canadian Police Information Centre.
It can quickly determine if the car or plates are stolen, if the driver has a suspended license or if the motorist is wanted or a person of interest.
Currently there is one police cruiser outfitted with the technology and it is being operated throughout the region on a daily basis.
