A preliminary report into the plane crash that killed a prominent Niagara-on-the-Lake family has been released.
The National Transportation Safety board report indicates the pilot 58 year old Joe Robertson told air traffic control that he was experiencing a loss of power and that he could see the airport and planned to land at the Greenville Municipal Airport in Maine.
Two witnesses at the airport the morning of the July 30th crash also told NTSB investigators that they saw the plane as it approached the airport runway.
Both witnesses said the plane was flying low and estimated that it was between 400 and 600 feet above the ground.
They also reported that the plane's propellers were turning, although one of the witnesses said he wasn't sure how fast they were turning.
One also reported that the plane appeared to almost stop in the air before its left wing dropped suddenly and the nose of the plane dove toward the ground.
The NTSB said the plane's wreckage was contained to where it hit the ground and there was no post impact fire.
There's no word on when the final report on the crash will be released.
The crash killed Joe and Anita Roberston and their 24 year old daughter Laura.
