A U-S judge has given the green light to a controversial plan to truck liquid nuclear waste from Canada to the U-S on a route that could include the Peace Bridge in Fort Erie.
A group, Beyond Nuclear, has been fighting to stop the proposed shipments from the Chalk River nuclear facility in Northern Ontario to a location in the U-S, arguing moving the material 564 kilometres poses a serious risk to the environment.
According to documents, moving the nuclear waste will take more than 100 truckloads over the next four years.
Now that the plan has been approved, shipments could begin by the end of the month.
