According to the latest numbers from Stats Can, Hamilton has the highest number of police reported hate crimes in the country.
The Stats Can report released yesterday shows the rate of hate crimes reported to police out of 100 thousand people is 17.1, almost three times higher than the Toronto rate.
Kogo Damptey with the Hamilton Centre for Civic Inclusion is not suprised and thinks the number is low because so many incidents go unreported.
He tells CKTB's Tim Denis, the rate is more likely between 50 and 85 percent.
The numbers come as city council tries to find ways to control Saturday demonstrations outside city hall by yellow vest protestors.
It was just last month alt-right protestors clashed with attendees at a Pride event in Gage Park.
