A New York City emergency room doctor who'd been treating COVID-19 patients for weeks has committed suicide.
Jennifer Feist, sister of Dr. Lorna Breen, the medical director of New York-Presbyterian Allen Hospital in Upper Manhattan who ended her life on Sunday, was on the Today show this morning to talk about her sister.
She says her sister described the last few weeks as Armageddon, adding there are so many sick people everywhere, some dying in the hospital waiting room before they can be admitted.
The 49-year-old doctor, who'd been infected by the virus herself, told her family of the pain she felt coping with all the death around her.
Her hospital released a statement praising Dr. Breen as a hero who brought the highest ideals of medicine to the front lines of the pandemic.
