One of the original members of ``The Monkees,'' Peter Tork, has died at the age of 77.
On the hit 1960's T-V show about a fictitious Beatles-inspired pop band, Tork played what he called the 'lovable dummy', a persona he developed as a folk singer.
While the other Monkees members were not allowed to play their own instruments on the group's first two albums, Tork was the exception.
After the series ended, Tork released various solo projects, while continuing to tour and record sporadically with his Monkees bandmates.
His sister today confirmed his passing.
In 2009, Tork was diagnosed with a rare form of tongue cancer.
