Hundreds of people have gathered for a celebration of life for a homeless man who died in St. Catharines.
Freddie Boyd, an elderly man who lived on the streets of the city died on Friday.
Mayor of St.Catharines, Walter Sendzik commenting on his passing adding that a lot of work still needs to be done addressing homelessness in St.Catharines.
Boyd was being treated for pneumonia in hospital, and died with a family member by his side.
His friend, Fred Bowering tells CKTB the recent cold weather took a toll on Boyd's health.
He says Boyd's passing is very tragic given that Boyd had just been approved for housing and he was set to receive the keys to his apartment today, the day of his funeral.
Boyd was known for his 'colourful' language to passerby's downtown, but he also formed friendships with residents.
A celebration of life took place this morning at Patrick Darte Funeral Home.
