An old nursing home in Niagara-on-the-Lake will become the new home for training fire fighters.
At the end of the month, the former nursing home on Byrson Street will be used by the NOTL fire and emergency service for training purposes.
The building will allow firefighters to practice searching for victims in a large and complex building with poor visibility.
The training will typically take place on evenings and weekends and theatrical smoke will be used to simulate realistic training.
“A well-trained fire department is imperative and this is an exciting addition to our existing training regiment,” states Fire Chief Rob Grimwood. “This building will provide the Fire
Department an excellent opportunity to conduct realistic training.”
The training should not have any impact on the public and the theatrical smoke that is used is and should be minimal.
