A new government survey shows almost one quarter of Canadian mothers say they experienced symptoms consistent with post-partum depression or anxiety disorder after giving birth.
Health Canada officials conducted the research during the first half of last year, finding moms under the age of 25 were more likely to report the signs of depression and anxiety than their older counterparts.
Experts say 31% of the women who reported feelings consistent with post-partum depression had previously been told by a doctor that they had depression or a mood disorder before become pregnant.
Nova Scotia reported the highest rate of post-partum symptoms at 31%, while Saskatchewan had the lowest, 16%.
