A St. Catharines woman inspired by her cousin has launched an online petition in the hopes of convincing the city to set up a safe injection site for drug users.
Sue Bowering says she set up the petition after hearing from her cousin Fred, who says he is constantly calling the city to report used syringes he finds in local parks, including Centennial and Montebello.
The online petition reads, "There is a HUGE epidemic around the city with addicts leaving needles and other paraphernalia lying around in public parks and places. This not only makes the addict unsafe but also the public. If the city had a safe injection site this would be beneficial to everyone. The parks would be cleaner for your family to enjoy and the user can get the proper help they need instead taking that risk of overdose. It's a lot cleaner all the way around. Please sign the petition, I'm sure if we all pull together as a community we can make this happen."
