A new report from a Brock University professor shows Ontarians support police playing a key role in animal cruelty investigations.
Chair of Brock’s Labour Studies Department, Kendra Coulter, received more than 20,000 responses to an animal cruelty survey launched at the beginning of this year.
Earlier this month, the OSPCA announced plans to stop all enforcement work by the end of March.
Coulter's research suggests the most promising options moving forward involve a combination of organizations, including police and non-profits for support and animal care.
She notes a provincial anti-cruelty unit would be a particularly compelling path to tread, saying it would likely benefit the animals as well as the safety of officers and the public.
