The Ontario government is out with their review of Overdose Prevention Sites, but it's unclear what that means for the proposed site in St. Catharines.
Today, the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care announced in the new year they will be transitioning overdose prevention sites to 'Consumption and Treatment Services.'
The focus would remains on overdose prevention and harm reduction as well as connecting people with treatment and rehabilitation services.
Existing sites can apply to continue operating under the new model but the government will only approve 21 sites province-wide.
A release also states the new model includes ongoing monitoring and reporting, as well as a 'comprehensive enforcement and audit protocol.'
The government also announced plans to put more detox beds in high need communities.
