The provincial government is considering extending some teachers' contracts, which would help it avoid any education bargaining leading up to the next election.
Premier Wynne says the issue arose during discussions with the unions over a court ruling earlier this year that said the government violated their collective bargaining rights.
Five unions took the government to court over legislation known as Bill 115, which imposed contracts on teachers and limited their ability to strike.
The judge sided with them but left it up to the government and the unions to decide how to remedy the situation.
Wynne says the idea of contract extensions came out of those discussions.
