The economic development ministers for Ontario and Quebec want Ottawa to consider dropping retaliatory steel and aluminum tariffs against the United States on the grounds they are hurting industries and workers on both sides of the border.
After the U-S imposed tariffs last year, the federal government slapped retaliatory tariffs on 16.6-billion dollars worth of U-S imports of steel, aluminum and other products.
Ontario Economic Development Minister Todd Smith believes if Ottawa dropped its counter-measure tariffs, it could result in the U-S dropping theirs too.
