Ontario's nurses are urging the government to continue opening supervised injection sites as a way to deal with the current opioid addiction crisis.
The Registered Nurses Association of Ontario has sent out an action alert to members to email the premier and health minister to let them know the sites should be allowed to continue their life-saving work
The RNAO noting recent figures show there were more than 1,200 deaths across the province in 2017 attributed to opioid poisoning, a 45 percent increase from the year before.
The Doug Ford government recently put a halt to funding of any new safe injection sites including one slated to open this year on Queenston Street in St. Catharines.
The province says it wants to conduct a review of the sites to determine if they have merit and are worth continuing.
