Leaders of the province's largest cities, say people in Ontario could face property tax increases and service cuts if upper levels of government don't provide immediate financial support to municipalities coping with massive pandemic-related costs.
The big city municipal leaders said $10 billion in aid is needed for communities across the country.
They're asking for approximately $4 billion to Ontario municipalities to offset lost transit revenues and added service costs, but so far, there has been no clear signal on the timing and level of a joint federal-provincial financial assistance program.
