A private member's bill that would ban expiry dates for loyalty programs is set for a final vote in the Ontario legislature on Monday.
The Protecting Rewards Points Act would make it illegal for programs like Air Miles to let customers' points expire without their permission.
The bill introduced by Liberal M-P-P Arthur Potts also says any points that expired on or after October 1st of this year would be credited back to the customer.
Potts says the legislation would free Ontario residents from any concerns about their Air Miles when a new five-year expiry rule kicks in on January 1st -- which would void all unused miles earned before 2012.
He says the bill has full support of the Ontario Liberal caucus and is confident it will pass.
