High water levels in Lake Ontario will prevent the revitalized Lakeside Park from being ready for Victoria Day.
Staff and the contractor worked to have the pavilion, band shell and renovated washrooms ready in time for the Victoria Day long weekend but due to the saturated condition of Lakeside Park and the rising water levels the park won’t be ready until later this summer.
High water levels off Lake Ontario have prevented the contractor from completing work on the new electrical system and made it difficult to complete sidewalks, pathways and associated sod reinstatement.
On Monday the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority announced that water levels in Lake Ontario are at their highest level since 1918 and may continue to rise.
The City is enhancing Lakeside Park by improving accessibility; building a new pavilion, band shell and playground; renovating the washrooms and the concession stand; and upgrading electrical and lighting systems.
