It exceeded our expectations.
That's how organizers of a St.Catharines candlelight vigil remembering the victims of the Pittsburgh Synagogue shooting are describing the event.
Rosalie Samosh, the Vice President of B'nai Israel tells CKTB 300-400 people participated in the vigil outside city hall on Sunday evening.
She says while the weather was cold, the warmth of community was wonderful.
Samosh says they remembered the victims of the massacre, and it was nice to see people from different faiths attend the vigil and offer support.
She says a book of condolences was passed around.
St.Catharines MP Chris Bittle attended the service posted this statement following the event:
"As we gathered as a community to say no to hate and to remember the 11 members of the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh who were Murdered simply because they were Jewish. We are not immune in Canada. We must all do our part and all stand up to be the light against the darkness."
The suspect in the massacre, Robert Gregory Bowers is accused of shooting 11 people at the Tree of Life Synagogue dead.
Authorities say the 46-year-old truck driver expressed hatred of Jews during and after the rampage.
