This year the Academy Awards are celebrating 90 years honouring the top films and brightest stars.
Several Canadians got nods this year, including Christopher Plummer for his supporting role in All the Money In the World, production designers Dennis Gassner (Blade Runner 2049) and Paul Austerberry (The Shape of Water), and costume designer Luis M. Sequeira (The Shape of Water). The Breadwinner was also nominated for best animated film; it's based on a novel by Canadian author Deborah Ellis.
Overall The Shape of Water, which was partially filmed in Hamilton, leads Oscar nominees with 13 nods
