The federal finance minister expected in Hamilton today to debut the start of consultations on how to protect Canada's steel industry.
Jesse Goldman, a lawyer representing the Canadian Coalition for Construction Steel, says the group has been told by federal officials that Finance Minister Bill Morneau will make the announcement during an event at Dofasco today.
The move comes in the wake of a June decision by the U.S. to impose tariffs on steel and alumimum from Canada and other allies.
Ottawa wants to make sure China doesn't flood the Canadian market with cheap steel as a way to avoid the U.S. tariffs.
