As we enter into the third day of an Environment Canada heat warning, it is going to be harder for Niagara's homeless population to find somewhere to cool off.
Organizers with the emergency Out Of The Heat shelter say they will not be operating an emergency shelter this year.
Many factors contributed to the decision including new bylaw regulations, COVID-19, and the restructuring of the region's homelessness services.
Organizers hope those changes and additional funding through the pandemic will mean the community will still be supported.
They say they are in talks with community partners to offer a different type of service this year, but did not elaborate saying, "...stay tuned for the update we will be providing as soon as details have been finalized."
