A second healthcare worker at Hotel Dieu Shaver has tested positive for COVID-19.
The workers are self-isolating at home.
At this point, there are no cases within the hospital involving patients, but the second case involving a healthcare worker has caused Niagara Public Health to classify the situation as an outbreak.
Patient visiting has been cancelled until the outbreak is cleared by Niagara Public Health.
“Thank you to our team for managing this outbreak and ensuring that infection prevention and control measures remain in place to protect others in the hospital. As always, our priority is the safety of our patients, our staff and physicians, and our community. Our IPAC team, along with our Occupational Health team, in partnership with Niagara Public Health, will undertake all measures possible to contain the outbreak,” states Lynne Pay, Chief Executive Officer.
“While Niagara numbers are on the decline, this is another reminder that we still must remain vigilant,” states Jennifer Hansen, Chief Nursing Officer. “We appreciate and thank everyone at Hotel Dieu Shaver, our patients, their visitors and the community for their ongoing understanding and patience as we work to resolve this matter.”
