The remains of an industrial fire in Port Colborne continue to smoulder.
Crews stayed on scene at Vinyl Works through the night, extinguishing hot spots and keeping a close eye on things as the wind switched directions, blowing toward the west side of the city.
The Ministry of Environment says air quality testing is within acceptable limits, but residents are still advised to stay inside and avoid the smoke if possible. Officials will be back on scene today to continue monitoring the air quality.
Port Colborne fire fighters are also working against the weather - their equipment is freezing up as the snow continues to fall.
Fire crews from Welland, Wainfleet, Fort Erie, and Pelham stayed on scene through the night as well, but they have now returned to their municipalities.
Road closures are still in place along the Second Concession at Barber and at Highway 140.
