It was a frantic night at KeyBank Centre as crews quickly prepared the downtown Buffalo arena for a memorial service for a local police officer who died earlier this month during a training exercise in the Niagara River.
As soon as the Sabres and Red Wings left the ice, crews swept in to cover the ice, take down the glass and protective netting and set up seats.
Sabre's owners Kim and Terry Pegula are picking up the cost of the conversion.
Thousands of officers from across North America are expected at KeyBank Centre this morning at 10:00 for the service honouring Officer Craig Lehner.
Niagara Falls and the Peace Bridge will be illuminated in blue tonight to honour Lehner, who was also a member of the K-9 unit and Army National Guard.
