The town of Pelham will be undergoing an audit.
Councillors have agreed to a third party audit of all transactions and documents regarding Parkland Overdedication and 2015 Excess Parkland Dedication Agreement according to Mayor Dave Augustyn.
Augustyn says the wording of the motion was left intentionally broad.
"So as it says 'an independent third party audit of all transactions and documents' and it's worded that way so it doesn't shoehorn anyone into something. It's very broad, will cover everything that people are concerned with."
Augustyn says Pelham will not be accepting cash offered by developer Rainer Hummel who appeared at regional council, cheque in hand, to demand an audit.
"Council did discuss that - that was the second motion that I put forward; refusal of the cash to influence offer. Mr. Hummel's doing that was actually related to being involved in the audit and for the region to be involved in the audit and members of the regional audit committee - that's not appropriate! This needs to be an independent third party audit and so this idea of somebody with great wealth can give cash to influence to be involved in something, council said no to that."
The public report from KPMG Canada is expected to be delivered at council before the end of November.
