The Town of Pelham has received federal funding to improve their aging municipal swimming pool.
Pelham Mayor Dave Augustyn, along with Niagara West MP Dean Allison, and Niagara Centre MP Vance Badaway were on hand at Marlene Stewart Streit Park in Fonthill to announce nearly 70 thousand dollars in funding for improvements to the pool.
The funding will be provided through the federal government's Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program.
Augustyn tells CKTB the 70 thousand dollars, which the town will match, will go towards various improvements around the property.
He says it's part of a trend of continued improvements at the park named after World Golf Hall of Famer and Pelham native, Marlene Stewart Streit.
So far they've already renovated the poolhouse, the Isaac Reihl Memorial Skatepark, and added an accessible playground.
The town's only pool welcomed nearly 10 thousand visitors over the summer last year, including more than 900 swimming lessons.
