The town of Pelham will be spraying for gypsy moths in the Hillcrest Park area.
Gypsy moths are an invasive species native to Europe and Asia that was introduced to North America in the late 1860's. The moths defoliate trees.
Zimmer Air will be spraying a pesticide called Foray 48B, a naturally occurring thuringiensis, or soil borne bacteria, that is toxic to gypsy moths. Homeowners will get an informational flyer prior to spraying. Questions and concerns can be directed to the company at 1-800-665-5485.
Roads and trails may be closed during the spraying.
The spray program is in response to a resident concern. It should begin after May 15th.
