The Town of Pelham wants to see only qualified, independent citizens appointed to the board of the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority.
Mayor Dave Augustyn and his council unanimously passed a motion this week calling for Niagara's 12 local municipalities be permitted to publically advertise for
citizens to come forward and submit their names for appointment to the board.
The motion, that would come into effect after the 2018 municipal elections, asks Regional Council to amend the process for appointments to the NPCA.
Pelham is sending the motion to all of Niagara's local municipalities for consideration and the City of Hamilton.
The motion follows months of controversy involving the NPCA over growing public questions and concerns over the NPCA's business practices.
