A new national survey shows 1 in 4 Canadians check their phone while driving.
The survey commissioned by InsuranceHotline.com shows that 84% of Canadians keep a mobile device on them while driving, and 75% of passengers felt unsafe while a driver was talking or texting.
Police across the province have been cracking down on distracted driving since the beginning of the year when stiffer penalties were implemented.
For a first conviction, experienced drivers could face a fine of $1,000 and three demerit points.
Novice drivers could have their licenses suspended for up to a month for the first infraction.
