The Ontario SPCA is investigating the handling of pigs after a crash earlier this week in Burlington.
A big rig hauling the animals, overturned Wednesday morning on the way to Fearman's Pork Plant.
Forty-two of the 180 hogs on board, were either killed or had to be put down from injuries.
The SPCA says it has fielded a number of calls from people concerned about the treatment the animals received following the accident.
The animal protection agency is asking any witnesses to the crash to call them at 310-SPCA.
Meantime, the President of PETA, Ingrid Newkirk says she has written a letter asking the city of Burlington to approve erecting a 1.5 metre tall tombstone memorial at the scene of the accident to honor the pigs that lost their lives there.
