Niagara Regional Councillors taking the bull by the horns and moving ahead with a bylaw that currently is only being proposed by the city of Toronto.
Instead of endorsing the Toronto recommendation, in the hopes it would be passed by the province, council took matters into their own hands and adopted new rules for restaurants and bars in Niagara.
The bylaw makes it mandatory for all restaurants and bars to take down the contact information of patrons which can be used by public health for contact tracing in the event of a case of COVID-19.
It also prevents patrons from moving around inside eateries.
Customers can only get out of their seats, to pay or use the washroom.
St. Catharines Mayor Walter Sendzik, who along with Port Colborne Mayor Bill Steele spearheaded the move, says it's imperative we act more swiftly than we have previously.
