Niagara Falls is getting two new hotels on Fallsview Boulevard.
Council voted in favour of a zoning bylaw amendment to allow construction of the 16 storey Hyatt Regency and 14 storey Hyatt Centric buildings to continue at the Murray Street corner.
Councillor Vince Kerrio noted a local family is behind the developments.
"I think it's important to note this development is being proposed by a local company, that's operated by a local family, who has not only invested in our community in their own business, but this particular group invests in our community on anything that they're ever asked to do. They're at every event, they're at any charity thing."
A representative for the developer told councillors the hotels will provide 1,500 new jobs.
One resident living on Dunn Street did raise concerns relating to increased traffic in the area and worried the buildings may obstruct the view from her home.
The developer's representative said they are willing to work with the resident to deal with some of her concerns.
