The federal Ethics Commissioner says Prime Minister Justin Trudeau contravened a section of the Conflict of Interest Act in the S-N-C Lavalin affair.
Mario Dion says Trudeau directly and through senior officials used his position of authority to try to influence then-justice minister Jody Wilson-Raybould's decision on the criminal prosecution of the engineering giant.
The issue was whether she should overrule a decision by the director of public prosecutions to not invite SNC-Lavalin to enter negotiations towards a remediation agreement.
Trudeau had earlier expressed confidence that Dion would find he and his staff had done nothing wrong.
The PM is in Niagara-on-the-Lake today making an announcement at the Community Centre.
